भोपाल में 26 जुलाई को होटल में काम करने वाले हलवाई की हत्या के आरोप में पत्नी, उसके प्रेमी और प्रेमी के चचेरे भाई को खरगोन से गिरफ्तार किया गया है। आरोपियों ने खंडवा से भोपाल आकर हत्या की और रात में ही वापस लौट गए। 26 जुलाई की रात बागसेवनिया में मानिक सिंह (35) का शव घर में संदिग्ध हालत में मिला था। पहले उसका गला घोंटा फिर रेत दिया। मानिक मूलत: राजस्थान के बीकानेर का रहने वाला था।
10 जुलाई को उसकी शादी भैरोपुर पुनासा जिला खंडवा निवासी आरती चौहान से शादी हुई थी। वारदात के तीन दिन पहले यानी 22 जुलाई को आरती अपने मायके चली गई थी। पुलिस ने जब उसे बयान के लिए बुलाया तो उसने आने से मना कर दिया। इसके बाद पुलिस ने आरती के खिलाफ साक्ष्य जुटाना शुरू किए। SI भोजराज सिंह के मुताबिक, जांच में पता चला कि घटना वाली रात आरती अपने प्रेमी राजा वर्मा और उसके चचेरे भाई रंजीत के साथ बाइक से खंडवा से भोपाल आई थी।
पुलिस ने इस आधार पर उससे पूछताछ की तो वह गुमराह करने लगी। पुलिस को CCTV फुटेज मिले थे। इसमें वह बाइक पर दो साथियों के साथ आते-जाते दिखी थी। उन्होंने बाइक मानिक के घर से कुछ दूर खड़ी की और पैदल घर तक आए। पुलिस ने सख्ती की तो आरती ने स्वीकार किया कि राजा वर्मा दूसरी जाति का है, इसलिए परिजन शादी के खिलाफ थे।
उसकी छोटी बहन पूजा भोपाल में मानिक के भतीजे नरपत सिंह के साथ नमकीन बनाने का काम करती है। इस कारण आरती की मानिक से शादी करा दी गई। वह प्रेमी के साथ 26 जुलाई की रात भोपाल लौटी थी। प्रेमी को देखकर पति ने पूछताछ की तो जवाब दिया कि वह उसे यह बताने आई है कि अब हम साथ नहीं रहेंगे। पति को यह भी बताया कि राजा और उसके बीच 10 साल से संबंध हैं। इस बात पर विवाद हुआ। उसने और उसके प्रेमी और प्रेमी के रिश्तेदार ने मिलकर पति का गला घोंटा। किचन से चाकू लाकर गला रेत दिया।

On July 10, he was married to Aarti Chauhan, resident of Bhairopur Punasa district Khandwa. Three days before the incident i.e. on 22nd July, Aarti had gone to her maternal home. When the police called him for statement, he refused to come. After this the police started collecting evidence against Aarti. According to SI Bhojraj Singh, investigation revealed that on the night of the incident, Aarti had come to Bhopal from Khandwa on a bike with her lover Raja Verma and his cousin Ranjit.
When the police interrogated her on this basis, she started misleading. Police had received CCTV footage. In this, she was seen traveling on a bike with two friends. He parked the bike some distance away from Manik's house and came to the house on foot. When the police took strict action, Aarti admitted that Raja Verma belonged to another caste, hence the family was against the marriage.
His younger sister Pooja works as a namkeen maker in Bhopal with Manik's nephew Narpat Singh. For this reason Aarti was married to Manik. She returned to Bhopal with her lover on the night of 26 July. Seeing the lover, the husband inquired and she replied that she had come to tell him that we would no longer be together. She also told her husband that she and Raja had been in a relationship for 10 years. There was a dispute on this matter. She, her lover and the lover's relative together strangled her husband. He brought a knife from the kitchen and slit his throat.
