दीपावली पर यातायात सुगम करने के लिए यातायात पुलिस द्वारा केईएम रोड पर वाहनों का प्रवेश पूर्णतया बंद कर दिया जाता है। तीन दिन तक इस रोड पर चौपहिया से लेकर दुपहिया वाहनों तक की आवाजाही बंद रहती है लेकिन यहां लोगों को पैर रखने की जगह ही नहीं मिल पाती है। इन दिनों केईएम रोड के हर कोने पर केवल दुकानदार और ग्राहक दिखते हैं। सड़क के बीचोंबीच फुटकर दुकानदार नजर आते हैं। फुटपाथ पर बैठे ये दुकानदार धनतेरस से दीपावली तक करीब 35 से 40 लाख का माल बेच देते हैं।
कोटगेट से लेकर सार्दुल सिंह सर्किल, स्टेशन रोड, तोलियासर भैरूंजी गली, अलख सागर रोड, रतन बिहारी मंदिर के आसपास इन फुटपाथ पर बैठने वाले दुकानदारों ने केईएम रोड पर दीपावली मार्केट को देखते हुए एक दिन पहले ही कब्जे जमा लिए। पुलिस प्रशासन धनतेरस से इस रोड पर केवल पैदल आने जाने वालों के प्रवेश देगा लेकिन इन दुकानदारों ने बुधवार रात से ही इन रास्तों पर कब्जे करने शुरू कर दिए। हालात यह थे कि रोड के बीचोबीच गुरुवार सुबह से ही लोगों ने अपनी दुकानें जमा ली। इसके लिए उन्होंने बुधवार की रात भी रास्ते पर गुजारी।

The police administration will allow entry of only pedestrians on this road from Dhanteras, but these shopkeepers started occupying these roads from Wednesday night itself. The situation was such that people had set up their shops in the middle of the road since Thursday morning. For this he also spent Wednesday night on the road.
